World's most gullible man to buy Twitter, Meta verification to keep that honor

SAN FRANCISCO (The Egg) — The world’s most gullible man announced plans to buy Twitter and the newly launched Meta verification badges after being told there are people trying to impersonate him on both platforms.
The 34-year-old San Francisco local named Dennis McButter eagerly read the news on his AOL Plus membership account Monday, that Meta is offering a new subscription service letting Facebook and Instagram users pay $11.99 per month on the web or $14.99 per month on mobile for a verified account which includes a blue badge.
“I can’t wait to show people that I’m the real Dennis McButter,” he wrote in a comment on AOL. “I’m choosing the $14.99 a month option because if it’s more expensive, it must be better.”
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg posted the product announcement on his own social media account Sunday, insisting that users should feel comfortable sending them a copy of their government-issued ID card, and that it’s totally normal to pay for this once-free service for notable people and businesses.
“There have been some bumps in the road, but we changed our name. We're better now,” Zuckerberg said in his post.
McButter, who had already been paying $50 per month for a private verification service he saw advertised in an email, was excited to learn that Meta will now offer the official Meta Verified service across its platforms.
“I don’t have any social media accounts currently, but I’m still getting verified on all of them to stop the impersonation,” McButter wrote.
